Preparing a List of Emergency Contact Details

Sometimes things don’t go to plan when you are expecting…
It is commonly stated around pregnancy circles, that only 5% of babies arrive on their due date. So, if you are one of the remaining 95% where you baby doesn’t arrived on its due date, you need to make sure that you are prepared as well as you can for the unexpected. A good start is making sure that you have some emergency contact list on hand, especially when you are heading into your third trimester. You should keep you emergency contact list with you; in your wallet, you car and at home. Below are some ideas for which numbers to consider including:
  1. Names and phone number of your Doctors/Birthing Assistants (including any after hours or emergency phone/pager details) Include your GP, Obstetrician, Doula, etc…
  2. Hospital / Birthing Centre name and address
  3. Names and phone numbers of your partner, labour assistant, family and close friends.
  4. Medicare details
  5. Private health insurance details if you hold a policy
  6. Blood Group Card
  7. Prenatal test results which may be required for birth
  8. Any health conditions that may effect you (e.g. allergies, high blood pressure, other pregnancy ailments)
It is also important in your last trimester to have your labour and hospital bags packed.
